Located near Harrison, Ohio, in western Hamilton County, Hunters Ridge is a family-friendly suburban neighborhood with a range of established and new homes. With a population just shy of 13,000 residents, the charming Cincinnati suburb of Harrison is known as a peaceful and welcoming community.

Quiet and clean, this area is considered safe and walkable, with plenty of green space, access to diverse schools, and proximity to nearby activities and attractions. New home development has opened the door to young professionals, families, and retirees seeking semi-custom homes in beautiful, master-planned communities.

Area History

Originally part of Crosby Township in Hamilton County, Harrison, OH, was founded in 1850 as a namesake of President William Henry Harrison, the ninth president of the U.S., who famously served only 31 days in 1841 before becoming the first president to pass away in office. He also served the shortest term of any U.S. president in history.

Notable historical events include Morgan’s Raid of 1863, during which Confederate forces of around 3,000 men, led by John H. Morgan, invaded Harrison. During the attack, a bridge was burned and raiders left town with fresh horses and supplies, without firing a single shot.

The flood of 1913 is also well-known. When the Whitewater River overflowed its banks up to a height of 19 feet above flood level, residents were forced to flee their homes. While the town suffered significant property damage and the nearby suspension bridge was swept away, only one life was lost in this historic flood.

Close to Cincinnati

Located near the intersection of I-275 and I-74, this area is just about 20 miles northwest of Cincinnati’s city center. This makes it a great option for professionals looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life without too much of a commute.

A Quiet, Family Community

The area in and around Harrison is known for friendly neighborhoods, clean parks, and a safe environment, with 86% of homes owner-occupied. Residents enjoy walking their dogs, hiking, camping, grilling, and gardening.

The Hunters Ridge neighborhood is filled with modern homes, large lots, beautiful landscaping, and walkable streets lined with lamps to encourage residents to walk their dogs and visit with neighbors. With dozens of home sites in this planned community, residents will find it easy to make new friends. Several homes and lots are still available for purchase.

Diverse Schools

The Northwest Local School District (NWLSD) includes one preschool, five elementary schools, three middle schools, two high schools, and two career centers. It serves approximately 9,000 students spread over 56 square miles. With numerous academic and extracurricular programs available, families have many options to chart successful educational paths for students.

The district is renowned for exceptional diversity, great teachers, a good sports program, and outstanding college prep, perhaps due to a collaboration with Butler Tech that opened campuses and career centers to students. In 2018, the district added three new state-of-the-art elementary facilities.

Green Space Galore

Hamilton County is home to some truly beautiful scenery, offering ample opportunities for nature lovers to participate in outdoor activities. The Miami Whitewater Forest is a 4,678-acre park with a network of paved and unpaved trails ideal for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.

The park also offers disc golf, a soccer complex for adult leagues to play, and a youth camp area. Picnic areas, shelters, and a vast 11-acre dog park ensure fun for the whole family.

Anglers are sure to love the Campbell Lakes Preserve. This 183-acre park situated along the Whitewater River features four secluded lakes and supports activities like fishing, canoeing, and kayaking.

Keeping Yourself Entertained

Whether you want to dine, shop, or be entertained, you’ll find plenty to do at The District Harrison. Established in 2017 to restore and preserve the historic downtown area, The District features restaurants, cafés, breweries, tasting rooms, salons, boutique shopping, and more. Local tastings, food truck rallies, and other events are commonly held here.

Of course, it’s just a short drive to Cincinnati, where Hunters Ridge residents can catch Reds or Bengals games, attend concerts and music festivals, and sample the city’s signature chili. Uptown offers an eclectic shopping experience, and families will enjoy the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden along with exhibits at The Children’s Museum.
